Not Yet Begun to Fight

Fall 2020

Project Objective:

To create a magazine ad for the TV documentary “Not Yet Begun to Fight,” a documentary about dealing with PTSD from serving in the military. It was restricted to a duotone print.

To catch a reader’s attention, I emphasized “fight” in the typography of the headline, as the word has heavy connotations and will make people pause. The hierarchy of the upper third of the page draws the reader in, while the repeated black bar shape creates a rhythm that moves the eye throughout the rest of the page.

For the tone I chose green because it references military, nature, and healing—all of which relate to the documentary. The photography is open, with the top photo implying the real effects of war while the bottom photo shows the setting of the show.

There are three other versions of this piece, but the final selected design was the strongest because of the large headline, repeated use of a black bar to move the viewer around the ad, and easier to read with a three column layout.
